Arrival + Our House

The first week is over and wow. It was... eventful. The flight was exhausting. On Wednesday, we were supposed to be on a plane to Chicago, then on ANOTHER plane to London and finally arriving in Edinburgh at 3 in the afternoon on Thursday.

Our flight from Chicago to London was delayed 5 hours. Five long hours. In the middle of the night. Then when we arrived in London we had to go through customs, PLUS we missed our flight into Edinburgh by a good 4 hours. It was delightful. Then we had to take a cab to the house we're staying in. The driver must have thought we were crazy when we directed him to take us to the middle of what essentially is a dog park at 9 pm. The house we are staying at is part of a park, so regular people walk around ALL THE TIME with their dogs. It's fun.

The next day we needed to tour the house a little bit to figure out where we were. It was pretty creepy because all the staff were in a meeting and me and my sister were the only ones exploring the cold, quiet house. The house seemed so haunted (still does), and we were scared out of our minds when we found a room called the cage room. Why? What? No. What? It was terrifying.

Turns out it was just for the walk in freezers.
BUT STILL
It was scary.

What is this spooky, fun, old Scottish place? Dalkeith House. It sounds like I hate it but it's not that bad at all. The only downside is that it is cold. VERY cold. As I'm writing this, I'm sitting right next to a heater in order to achieve maximum warmth. My room, however, is one of the warmest for some reason. It's not special or anything, not particularly in the sun or next to a heater or really small. It's just warm.

  2. Sounds like quite an adventure already, Claire! What a cool place to be able to live in for 2 months. Keep warm and hi to mom and Ruby! :)

  3. Maybe they call it a 'cage room' to prevent all the students from raiding the freezer and eating all the goodies?!? :)
